Artist Statement: My work comes in bursts of spontaneity.

My initial images may be in watercolor and pen often inspired by nature or figures. I am excited when suddenly I “see” something suggested within the seemingly random marks. In this series, which are nature inspired and executed as play with lines and inks, I saw “signs of the cross” emerge - somber, chaotic, but with bursts of light.

My style is rhythmic, colorful and energetic. I am simultaneously inspired by the abstract expressionists and the precisionists – striving for balance in many ways.

My process often begins with small sketches or full color renderings. Then, I’ll photograph my initial work, possibly altering it digitally through color shifts and addition of organic forms to yield the beginnings of a new painting in oil or a multimedia base for a new piece.

Painting is a Zen experience for me. Despite procrastinating on the front end, once I get started, I am energized and lost in the process. I engage in a great deal of self-talk in color mixing and selection, mark making, and always, always tweaking. My nemesis is keeping my hands off a piece I’ve already deemed complete!
