Madonna with Child
watercolor with collage
2002
This painting evolved from two old prints of mine - a goddess figure
done as
a collograph with chine collé and an etching of a sleeping child
(the child
is one of mine, many years ago). I have been working with the new to me
medium of acrylics on canvas with collage. These two prints were made
for
each other the protection of the Mother over the sleeping child.
The
Madonna figures frequently in my work as the epitome of the Mother
she is
strong, protective, loving, caring, supportive. She is the backbone of
our
lives whether she is THE Madonna or the madonna who is my mother or the
madonna who is me.
