Materials used in construction also reflect the church's local roots. Lumber from the surrounding hills, presently part of the Tongass National Forest, frames the building. Red cedar shakes cover the roof while yellow cedar forms the furniture and rails. Marble from a nearby island was quarried for the altar.

Craftsmen are contributing their efforts in the present day. When the original steeple became too rotten to support the bell a few years ago, a cabinetmaker from our congregation built a new one, while remarking on the ingenuity of that first steeple. A new cross, erected in June, was handcrafted by another skilled member.
