From the series: The Colonial
Meetinghouses of New England. While most of New England was
settled by Puritans, the Anglican Church did have a presence here,
fostered primarily by an organization in England called
The Society for the Propagation of the
Gospel in Foreign Lands. Trinity Church was built in 1771 in
Brooklyn, Connecticut, and was a mission church of Trinity Church in
Newport, Rhode Island. This building, essentially unchanged today, offers
a glimpse of the faith of these early Anglican settlers. This photograph
is included in the book A Space for
Faith: The Colonial Meetinghouses of New England (www.aspaceforfaith.com). |
