Hildegard of Bingen
Acrylic on canvas
Statement:
Hildegard of
Bingen has provided centuries of readers with writings on
prayer as well as spiritual reflections, poetry, and medicinal
and botanical instruction. Her generative output also included
music and art. Her work continues to maintain strong resonance
with contemporary readers. And all of her writing, at its
very root, is praise, is prayer. She once wrote:
The fire has its flame and
praises God.
The wind blows the flame and praises God.
In the voice we hear the word which praises God.
And the word, when heard, praises God.
So all of creation is a song of praise to God.
--quoted in Matthew Fox's Original
Blessing
