Poverty

24"x28"

Artist Statement: In desperation and for lack of good this woman is digging in the garbage to find sustenance.

Themes for my art have been both Biblical and Social issues- "The Uprooted" and "Homeless." Coming from an Armenian heritage I empathize with those going through genocides as depicted in Uprooted series of 32 paintings. My parents were survivors of the First Genocide of the 20th Century. Going to my studio in NYC I witnessed many Homeless - men, women and children of all ages. I did a series of 18 paintings on this theme showing their plight. I myself am a refugee from Jerusalem, Palestine and again from Beirut Lebanon. I know the trauma of leave your home, belongings and all to start anew. .
