Mary Magdalen at the Tomb

Icon

Artist Statement: The original icon of Mary Magdalene at the Tomb was "written" by the Greek iconographer Konstantinos Yzanes in the late 17th century.

This icon, in a style heavily influenced by the Renaissance, portrays a grieving Mary Magdalene at the empty tomb where she had gone expecting to anoint the body of Christ.

Bio: My art has been a part of me for most of my life. After moving to Pensacola, I was introduced to the wonderful world of icons and they have become my passion. I find that iconography combines use of artistic skill and creativity with spiritual motivation, discipline and religious devotion. I write icons in accordance with ancient guidelines and techniques, using modern artists' materials.
