Jeanne Harris Weaver

Angel on Duty

Oil painting
30"x40"

Artist Statement: It was autumn 2006 when I was fortunate to travel with my husband on a two month TDY to Dhaka, Bangladesh. Although his work would be with the American Embassy; I would be traveling as an artist. I spent time getting to know the people and their culture. I shopped in their market places and shared their food. I sketched outdoors and painted in watercolor and oil. Before our departure, I had the opportunity to show my works at the American Embassy.

One day, I ran across a scene of mothers waiting at a school to pick up their children. Although the dresses and colors were different, it was a familiar scene to me as they happily gossiped together.

But then the old man came seeking alms. He was ignored. A woman behind him wore a white veil silhouetting his body. Was he an angel? For me he was
—teaching a lesson in compassion.

Bio: Jeanne Harris Weaver, a two-dimensional artist, paints primarily in oils at her condo on the ocean in Cocoa Beach, Florida. Of her vocation, Jeanne says "Painting is the recording of the world, its environment and humanity through my eyes, my senses, my spirit. When that expression touches another’s soul, the worth is great."

Also, the author of Losing Todd: A Mother’s Journey published by the Muscarelle Museum of Art, Jeanne was awarded an honorary degree in 2017 from The College of William & Mary for her book and paintings honoring the life of 1LT Todd William Weaver, killed in action in Afghanistan on September 9, 2010.

Jeanne’s work is a reflection of God’s presence in her life. She hopes others can sense His presence in her works.
