Upon Reflection

I am drawn to the practice of the Examen developed by Saint Ignatius, who told his
novices, “If you find in a day that you have little time for prayer, hold fast to the
Examen.” This is the place at the end of the day, (or at the end of a job or a marriage, or
at the end of our lives) where we review in the presence of God, “Where did I see and
meet You? Where did I use my gifts to serve? Where was I most my true self? Where
was I most or least alive with You and with others?”

My painting, “Upon Reflection,” is about taking the time to pause with God and reflect and listen.
