This was taken in Pena Palace, in the Lisboa area of Portugal. I have been reading recently about the life of monks in the middle ages.  This shot reminded me of what monastery living might have looked like.  A place where people dedicated their lives to study of the Scriptures, meditation, prayer & worship with few comforts.
