The Feeding of
the Multitudes
Mural
(unfinished; work in progress)
acrylic

61 x 112
inches
Between
the four gospels we are given six accounts of Jesus
miraculously feeding thousands of people at a time. Whenever
I imagine myself in one of those crowds, however, it still
feels like a very personal and intimate act—that my Lord
cared enough about my temporal needs to stretch the very laws
of nature in order to satisfy my hunger, as well as that of so
many around me. These stories always remind me of our
Eucharistic Prayer C (Holy Eucharist Rite II, BCP) when, after
the elements are blessed, the congregation speaks in one
voice: "Risen Lord, be known to us in the breaking of the
Bread."
I have never painted a mural
before, and I don't often show my works in progress. In order
to stretch beyond the boundaries of my well-worn
comfort zones
I am keeping a blog about the mural process at
