An
Invitation
Medium: Silver Gelatin print Artist statement: An altar bathed in sunlight is a simple image, with a very profound invitation. It catches our attention and pulls us in through the stark contrast of the light to offer us a meal full of hope, love, and peace to nourish a broken world. The light of the world illuminates those places that are in need of our attention and invites our participation through conversation at the ultimate meal. Biographical Information: Deborah Scarff, owner of The Better Light, a professional photo and digital imaging company, has worked in the medical, industrial and commercial photographic fields. Her solo exhibit, “God’s Light in Holy Places” at St. Paul’s Cathedral, Boston, was requested by Bishop M. Thomas Shaw and traveled around the Diocese of Massachusetts in the 1990s. She has also just published her first book on Episcopal clergy and their hobbies titled, “Pastimes of the Spiritually Rich and Famous, the portraits and personal insights of Episcopal clergy on their activities for spiritual renewal." These two bodies of work represent the direction she is being pulled toward, photographing different aspects of the church today. Currently she is having her images from the "God’s Light in Holy Places" exhibit illustrated with poetry. |
