The Prophet Ezekiel
Mixed-media on paper

Ezekiel is a fine guide for artists and teachers. He's a master of show and tell. God tells him not only to hear and speak the word of the Lord to the people (auditory learning), but also to show them by taking a block of clay, drawing into it, and symbolically sculpting the siege of Jerusalem (visual learning). For the more dramatic, kinesthetic types, God has him act out the exile by digging a hole in the wall, taking his belongings out through it and then covering his face as if he cannot see. In his love for God and neighbor he obeys. The man has courage.

Ezekiel shows us a God who knows us intimately and graciously meets us where we are; a God who tries unceasingly to guide us into a deeper way of knowing and a new way of seeing; a God who melts our denial so that we might be restored to wholeness — dry bones brought back to life.
