The
Good Samaritan (after Van Gogh) I had always wanted to interpret a Van Gogh painting as a relief sculpture and The Good Samaritan (after Delacroix) is one of my favorite paintings. But what I found to be even more rewarding was researching the Good Samaritan parable. It had been many years since I had read it and even back then I did not get the deeper meaning of the story. Finding out that the Samaritan and the Jews were traditional, and often mortal, enemies made the true meaning of the parable came to life for me. It is not just about one human being helping another. It is about reaching across centuries of cultural divisions; about transcending a history of hatred; about loving a neighbor, in spite of what you have been taught, as yourself. And I realized that this is happening all over the world, unknown and unheralded, every day. curator's statement | list of artists
