Awakening

By Martha D. Peterson

Why art thou cast down, O my Soul?
—Psalm 42:5

Restless, squirming, haunting Essence
Seeking for her place;
Never slowing, glimpsing, hearing,
"Sufficient is My Grace."

Deaf to leaves and waves and wind
That hush you to BE STILL!
"Abide in Me and I in You";
That is the Father’s Will.

Caught in the limiting net of Time,
You believe the Accuser’s voice.
Yet, I in you continually cry,
"Today Soul make your choice."

Clutch darkness, fear and hopelessness
To your shrunken breast;
Or cast aside that ego mask
And be that God-possessed.

At last, at last I hear Your Voice
Piercing the howl of lies.
I freely rest my soul in Thee…
My Home, my Paradise.

Friends wondered where she had gone…
That fretful, seeking Soul.
Oh, she's returned to the Father’s House
To abide and be made whole.

  Martha Peterson was raised in a strict Presbyterian Church, but boldly switched to the Episcopal Church "when a priest told me God loved me!" Since then, "I can look back and see that dear Holy Spirit has led me to passing on this agape love by joining the Peace Corps at age 55 to teach in Sierra Leone, then Pakistan." Since then she has been with a Healing Arts Group to teach Bible Wisdom in the Ukraine, taught English in China, and to India to train nurses in oral and written English. Martha is also a classical pianist, organist, and ensemble player. "My website challenges people to 'Get a Life!' with the help of our inborn Counselor. I'm so glad I did!"
