  Very Cool Rain
(Prayer of a Priest's Wife)

By Erin McGee Ferrell

Oh Spring rain, melt all this grey snow.

Another move, another set of friends
and doctors, new dentists, new insurance,
new car tags, new grocery stores,
new walls to paint . . . what a waste of time.
Where God is the provision promised;
long anticipated after ten years
of continual sacrifice and loss.
Where God is the stable place
for our children to make best friends.
Carried on the wind.

If that blowing be the Holy Spirit
how cruel and unfair to our humor.
More medication to control the anxiety
in order to follow your bidding?
More hopes and efforts dashed
through "almost" callous slam.
Is following you Christ always like this?
Ten years of journeying uphill.

Our family needs to rest. Our hearts
and endurance have grown strong,
but are tired to exhaustion.
Do you choose to intervene
or are we entertaining to you
as you play with our times?

Have mercy oh Lord. Remember,
we are your beloved babes in arm.
