  Nativity

16.5x14 inches

Kathy Thaden

This old wooden box has been transformed into a mosaic nativity scene, with angels keeping watch from the doors.

Working with glass is a transforming process. My theology of doing mosaics is found in working with things that are broken, and then through transformation and grace, the broken is made whole and new.

Kathen Thaden was a professional graphic designer and art director working in television and broadcast design for over twenty years, before becoming a full-time studio artist. She writes, "I now find my passion for creativity through mosaics, overflowing beyond computer-generated images into something more tactile. I am inspired to recycle discarded items and found objects into sacred or liturgical art."

Her home is in Kremmling, Colorado with her son and husband, Tim, who is vicar of Trinity Episcopal Church.
