W.J. McCarthy had been collecting madonna and child in different mediums and "felt I needed to create my own. She went on to write, "After doing the study, I decided to give the finished painting to our church, Christ Church, Episcopal in Eureka, CA, after a Showing that I have in March, 2006. I was given a gift by God, I need to return it to our church."
