Lynn Chidwick
Immortal
(Stained glass, 63.5" x 20.5", 2007)

Lynn Chidwick’s work has been inspired by her interpretation of the beautiful transformation of the soul after death. Lynn has been honored over the last two years to be involved with many close friends and family in their dying journey. The time spent with these people has been very precious and likewise the design and fabrication process has been very meaningful.

Using stained, fused, diachronic and leaded glass, highlighted with gold leaf, and influenced by Gustav Klimt, the design is abstract and contemporary in nature. “Immortal” is a visual representation exploring life after death from a Christian perspective. The predominant feature suggests a continuous flow and channeling of the soul, ultimately leading to illumination. “Immortal” brings together Christian theology and symbolism of the Holy Trinity, the Crucifixion, and the Ascension of Christ.

The predominant aspect of Lynn’s work has been influenced by her study of the Arts and Crafts Movement. There is particular emphasis in the eras of Art Deco and Art Nouveau.

Using the medium of stained glass Lynn integrates the various elements of such artists as Morris, MacKintosh and Klimt in an attempt to capture both the quality of their work and understand the influences that resulted in their masterpieces. The main focus is two dimensional pieces in stained, fused, dichroic and leaded glass highlighted with gold leaf.

Lynn established her own stained glass art business in 1998, and moved her studio to Guelph, Ontario in 2000. The business is steadily growing and she has gained extensive experience in glass design and creation for commercial, private and public settings including work purchased internationally. Most recent commissions include: The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County, Loon in a Balloon Publishing, Waterloo, ON, Sorbara Law, Guelph, ON, Women’s College Hospital, Toronto and Dublin Street United Church, Guelph, ON.

Her goal remains to design and build unique stained glass that others may enjoy the play of light and colour.
