Silent Night
Photograph

Statement: Rev. Gena Davis, a Benedictine Oblate, hosts weekly contemplative prayer sessions in her office at Grace Episcopal Church in Houston. She and a group of church members meet on Wednesday evenings for meditation, frequently using readings from the World Community for Christian Meditation. During the Christmas Eve church service, Rev. Gena used a special candle as the church went dark for the singing of silent night. The candle came from her visit to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. That candle was used to light other candles in the service.

Bio: Paula Dittrick is a freelance writer-photographer living in Houston. She loves nature photography, particularly birds, and believes nature photography provides an intimacy with God's creation. Bird photography provides a stillness for prayer and meditation. Photography of people at worship in church gives her a different perspective, and she hopes her photographs convey a sense of wonder and gratefulness.
