Prayer
Oil on canvas

Statement: Whether we like it or not, we are vulnerable to God in prayer. In my church we begin our Sunday morning Eucharist service with the ancient prayer to God, to whom "all hearts are open, all desires known,
and from [you] no secrets are hid." This prayer has informed my spirituality since I was a child, and in this painting, I hope to depict that vulnerability, that openness and closeness to God, which is how I think
of my best self in prayer.

Bio: Jimpsie Ayres is a Memphis native in love with the people and the land of the South. In the tradition of Southern storytellers in every generation, her narrative paintings express that love and respect for the beauty, spirituality and rich texture of life in the Southeastern US. Plein air painting is her recent passion, as well as conducting workshops for school children.
