Mother of God - "The Sign"

The icon of "The Mother of God - The Sign" is a powerful one for me. It represents an invitation to come into the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ, the "pre-existent Word". It is a gesture of welcome to all. In this invitation, it speaks to the theme of General Convention 2006: "Come and Grow", and is especially appropriate in recognition of the 30th anniversary of the ordination of women in the Episcopal Church.

I am inspired daily by the Holy Spirit in my icon writing. Beginning with prayer and meditation, I seek to create images of Christ and Mary, along with many other saints, which will serve as focal points for others in their spiritual lives. Icons provide a wonderful means of drawing others into deeper relationship with God, and providing windows into heaven.
