The Earth Cries with Blood of the Faithful

27” x 18” x 2”; Materials: Stone, smalti, glass, slate, tree bark, twigs, cheesecloth and mortar on hand-formed substrate.

Artist Statement: Thinking of so many lives lost – innocent blood shed around the world, victims of gun violence, holocaust and genocide – I believe God grieves for them all. "…the Lord said, 'What have you done? Listen; your brother’s blood is crying out to me from the ground!'" (Gen. 4:10)

bio: Working with stone or glass is transforming. Materials are broken, and then made whole again into something new. In our throwaway culture, I am frequently inspired to reinvent glass scraps or found objects into sacred art, finding beauty in what was once broken. My mosaics range from abstracts and sculpture to commissioned and liturgical works. It is important to me nothing be wasted. I link my art to my faith – expressing awe at creation and the Creator – and enjoy leading mosaic retreats and workshops.
