Frank Logue

The Black Christ

Artist Statement: I wanted to create a work of art that would speak to how Christ is present in some of the current struggles in our country which center on treating some people as other. Influenced by Kelly Brown Douglas' book The Black Christ, I created a 3-color stencil design for graffiti which I sprayed painted on a building set for demolition (Many artists were tagging the concrete and a police officer told me the owner did not care). I added my image to a building set for destruction as an ephemeral way of showing an eternal truth, that Jesus did and does identify with anyone we attempt to name as other.

bio: Frank Logue is an Episcopal priest serving as the Canon to the Ordinary for the Diocese of Georgia. His primary art form is photography.
