As Creator of the Universe, God is shown creating light out of chaos, separating light from darkness, and separating the waters above from the waters below.  (Genesis 1, 1-10)

 

This icon is based on an illumination in the Oxford Bible, a mid-13th
century English manuscript whose delightful illustrations are attributed to William de Brailes.

 

The “flame” carved board was made in Serbia.
