Young Mary
Acrylic

The story of this image is in itself the story of Mary, Mother of Our Tribe.  A member of our parish in Saranac Lake, New York saw this image while on a tour of the Holy Land and took a photo.  We, in our parish icon-painting group, re-imagined the photograph as an icon.  After we started painting we discovered that this image is in fact an image of Our Lady of Suyapa in Honduras, where she is venerated as the nation's patron saint.  So from Honduras, to the Holy Land, to The Church of Saint Luke, and a group painting icons in the Russian style, this image endures and speaks to us all.
