The Cross of Ubuntu
Digital Collage

The guiding idea behind this Ubuntu-inspired collage is the juxtaposition of suffering caused by a myopic view of humanity—and the concurrent reality that the Spirit of Oneness and Hope has been unleashed, in spite of the forces of evil and greed that would impede it. And, it is scattering the mercy that makes us human to every corner of the earth, as a dandelion seed is drawn up and sent out, releasing the past and promising new life wherever it lands.

My collage of images dreams of a world community humble enough to acknowledge and seek forgiveness for the damage that has been done to our human family—the countries that have been ravaged, the children who have been denied childhood, education, food, clothing, a trade, an opportunity to dance.

Read these same images from a relational worldview, and you will find that they suggest the road not taken—the Hope for the future, the only road with no end, cleansed and bandaged with living water and arms gently cradling all of life. It points to those who have heard the cries and chosen to act, to meet the basic needs of all people for food and water and safety and education and love and creativity—and relationship.

God’s hand and our hands are in it; gentleness and strength meet when I realize that I need you as much as you need me. Look out the window and imagine the frame (of reference) as the only border. Separation is illusion. The dream is reality. Community is life.
